BAR ON LOCKE CELEBRATES 20th ANNIVERSARY

Founder Ray Seliwoniuk Announces Retirement and New Owner Peter Morrison

 

Hamilton, ON – On Sunday, November 26, the Bar on Locke will celebrate 20 years serving Locke Street neighbourhood locals and visitors alike. This milestone event also marks a time for exciting change at “The Bar” as founder and owner Ray Seliwoniuk announces his retirement and ushers in the next era of the Bar under new owner Peter Morrison’s leadership. The Bar will be hosting an open house for all to come by and meet the new owner, celebrate 20 years and wish Ray a happy retirement from 4:00pm until closing.

 

“18 years ago, a mutual friend brought a young 30-something chef in to chat with me about opening a restaurant in Toronto – that restaurant is now the Parkdale institution, the Easy Restaurant. That was the last time I saw him until 3 months ago a customer called me over to the table and said ‘hey Ray, remember me?’ It was Peter. After a few chats, it became obvious to me that he was the person meant to take the Bar into its next era,” said Seliwoniuk. “The last 20 years here at the Bar have been the best time of my life, and for that, words can’t express my gratitude to all our patrons from near and far over the years. What I can tell you is how confident I am in leaving the Bar in very capable hands. All staff have been invited to stay on and have been very supportive through the transition. Besides, I’ll still be hanging around for quite a while. I usually get hungry a couple of times a day.”

 

“I’ve always said that I wanted to own a classic bar, and since Ray and I started talking this summer, it was obvious that Bar on Locke was what I was looking for. I moved to Hamilton from Toronto last year and have been looking for a vehicle for my breakfast, lunch and dinner ideas ever since,” said Morrrison. “I want to bring some classic recipes to the scene on Locke Street, which will feature locally sourced ingredients. I am also very health conscious, so there will be many dishes that appeal to those looking for a healthy meal as well as those looking for great flavours. We will be launching the new menu soon and our hours will change a bit to accommodate the brunch menu. We do have a few surprises in store as well and are very excited to see you soon!”
